Father Michael Duesterhaus, former Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Angels, passed away on 23 August after years of illness, faithful to the end and encouraging his brother priests to cherish their vocation. Fr. Álvaro invites the parish to pray for his eternal rest and shares prayers from the funeral liturgy for our own reflection.

Dear parishioners,

As you know, Father Michael Duesterhaus, the former Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Angels, passed away on 23 August following a number of years of medical issues. Less than two weeks ago, doctors estimated that he had between five and six weeks left, but he deteriorated much faster than expected.

Despite his diagnosis, Father Michael remained in good spirits. He encouraged us, his fellow priests, to embrace our vocation wholeheartedly, to administer the Sacrament of Penance generously, and to cherish our time at the altar of God.

I ask that you pray for his eternal rest. You may find the following prayers helpful for reflecting on Christian life and priestly ministry. They are taken from the funeral liturgy and offer great insight.

“In the waters of baptism, Father Duesterhaus died with Christ and rose with him to new life. May he now share with him eternal glory”

“In baptism, Father Duesterhaus received the sign of the cross. May he now share in Christ´s victory over sin and death”.

“We pray for our brother Michael, who served the Church as a priest, that he may be given a place in the liturgy of heaven”.

“Grant we pray, O Lord, that the soul of Michael, your servant and priest, whom you honored with sacred office while he lived in this world, may exult forever in the glorious home of heaven”.

“We implore your kindness, O God, for Michael, your servant and Priest, that as you made him a steward of your mysteries on earth, so you may bring him to be nourished by their truth and reality as unveiled in heaven.

May his soul, and the souls of the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace, Amen.

El Padre Michael Duesterhaus, antiguo Vicario Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, falleció el 23 de agosto tras años de enfermedad, fiel hasta el final y animando a sus hermanos sacerdotes a valorar su vocación. El P. Álvaro invita a la parroquia a orar por su eterno descanso y comparte oraciones de la liturgia exequial para nuestra propia reflexión.

Queridos feligreses,

Como saben, el padre Michael Duesterhaus, antiguo vicario parroquial de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, falleció el 23 de agosto tras varios años de problemas de salud. Hace menos de dos semanas, los médicos estimaban que le quedaban entre cinco y seis semanas de vida, pero su estado se deterioró mucho más rápido de lo esperado.

A pesar de su diagnóstico, el padre Michael mantuvo siempre el buen ánimo. Nos animó a nosotros, sus hermanos sacerdotes, a abrazar nuestra vocación de todo corazón, a administrar generosamente el sacramento de la penitencia y a valorar nuestro tiempo ante el altar de Dios.

Les pido que recen por su descanso eterno. Quizá les resulten útiles las siguientes oraciones para reflexionar sobre la vida cristiana y el ministerio sacerdotal. Están extraídas de la liturgia fúnebre y ofrecen una gran profundidad.

«En las aguas del bautismo, el padre Duesterhaus murió con Cristo y resucitó con él a una nueva vida. Que ahora comparta con él la gloria eterna».

«En el bautismo, el padre Duesterhaus recibió el signo de la cruz. Que ahora participe de la victoria de Cristo sobre el pecado y la muerte».

«Oramos por nuestro hermano Michael, que sirvió a la Iglesia como sacerdote, para que se le conceda un lugar en la liturgia del cielo».

«Concédenos, te lo pedimos, oh Señor, que el alma de Miguel, tu siervo y sacerdote, a quien honraste con el sagrado ministerio mientras vivía en este mundo, se regocije para siempre en la gloriosa morada del cielo».

«Imploramos tu bondad, oh Dios, por Miguel, tu siervo y sacerdote, para que, así como le hiciste administrador de tus misterios en la tierra, así también le lleves a alimentarse de su verdad y realidad tal y como se revelan en el cielo.

Que su alma, y las almas de los fieles difuntos, por la misericordia de Dios, descansen en paz. Amén.
