Gratitude, Farewell, and a Blessed Summer

As our nation marks its 250th anniversary, Fr. Álvaro gives thanks for the ministry of Fr. Juan Espino, DCJM — who departs this summer for a new assignment in Colorado — and shares news about Religious Education registration and the months ahead.

Happy Fourth of July weekend! This year marks the 250th anniversary of America.

This week, I would like to express my gratitude and prayers for the ministry of Fr. Juan Espino, DCJM. As you may already know, we are a religious order of priests with missions in different states and countries. Fr. Juan has been assigned to our parish for a total of six years, although he also served in the Diocese of Arlington for another six years through his priestly service. Virginia has been a meaningful place for him, as he has flourished here as a priest. However, the Good Lord is now calling him to a new assignment in Littleton, Colorado. He will certainly be missed, and while changes are always difficult, they can be fruitful if we embrace them in communion with the Lord, trusting in his plans and being grateful for Fr. Juan's time with us, which will come to an end this summer. Returning to Colorado will reconnect him with the many graces he received there, particularly his final vows in October 2012 and his ordination as a priest in June 2013. The parish will host a farewell reception this Thursday, July 9, starting with Mass at 7 pm, followed by an opportunity to show our gratitude and wish Fr. Juan well.

Our annual registration for catechetical programs is now underway, and our Religious Education Office is hard at work processing enrollments through July 20. We kindly ask for your patience as the staff makes its way through a busy season of registrations. A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet many of our wonderful and patient catechists. You can see them in the photo below, taken at the end of our meeting, where I listened to their thoughts and assured them of the importance of this ministry, as well as my support and expectations. We will begin next year's apostolic work with a retreat on August 29, and we are blessed to have Bishop Burbidge celebrate our Confirmation Masses on October 3 this year.

Al celebrar nuestra nación su 250.º aniversario, el P. Álvaro da gracias por el ministerio del P. Juan Espino, DCJM —que parte este verano hacia una nueva misión en Colorado— y comparte noticias sobre la inscripción de Educación Religiosa y los meses que vienen.

Queridos feligreses:

¡Feliz fin de semana del 4 de julio! Este año se cumple el 250.º aniversario de Estados Unidos.

Esta semana, me gustaría expresar mi gratitud y mis oraciones por el ministerio del P. Juan Espino, DCJM. Como quizá ya sepáis, somos una orden religiosa de sacerdotes con misiones en diferentes estados y países. El P. Juan ha estado destinado en nuestra parroquia durante un total de seis años, aunque también prestó servicio en la diócesis de Arlington durante otros seis años a lo largo de su ministerio sacerdotal. Virginia ha sido un lugar muy significativo para él, ya que aquí ha prosperado como sacerdote. Sin embargo, el Señor le llama ahora a una nueva misión en Littleton, Colorado. Sin duda le echaremos de menos, y aunque los cambios siempre son difíciles, siempre dan fruto si los acogemos en comunión con el Señor, confiando en sus planes y agradeciendo el tiempo que el P. Juan ha pasado con nosotros, que llegará a su fin este verano. El regreso a Colorado le permitirá reencontrarse con las numerosas gracias que recibió allí, en particular sus votos perpetuos en octubre de 2012 y su ordenación sacerdotal en junio de 2013. La parroquia organizará una recepción de despedida este jueves, 9 de julio, que comenzará con una misa a las 19:00 h, seguida de un momento para mostrar nuestra gratitud y desearle lo mejor al P. Juan.

Ya está en marcha la inscripción anual para nuestros programas de catequesis, y nuestra Oficina de Educación Religiosa está trabajando arduamente para procesar las inscripciones hasta el 20 de julio. Les pedimos paciencia mientras el personal avanza en esta temporada tan ocupada de inscripciones. Hace un par de semanas, tuve la oportunidad de conocer a muchos de nuestros maravillosos y pacientes catequistas. Pueden verlos en la foto de abajo, tomada al final de nuestra reunión, en la que escuché sus opiniones y les aseguré la importancia de este ministerio, así como mi apoyo y mis expectativas. Comenzaremos la labor apostólica del próximo año con un retiro el 29 de agosto. Tenemos la suerte de que nuestro obispo, Monseñor Burbidge, celebre las misas de Confirmación el 3 de octubre de este año.
