Dear Parishioners,
Happy New Year! For 2026, I have made a simple resolution to help me with my bulletin messages. In addition to keeping you informed about relevant parish or family events, I will review and comment on a classic text for faith formation, the Baltimore Catechism. I hope that our families can memorize simple truths together to grow in our Catholic identity. Below is my first selection of questions and answers for everyone to reflect on with a brief comment from me.
Why did God make you?
God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in heaven.
Brief comment: To know Christ is my full happiness in heaven, but it already starts here on earth.
What must we do to save our souls?
To save our souls, we must worship God by faith, hope, and charity; that is, we must believe in Him, hope in Him, and love Him with all our heart.
Brief comment: The ultimate criteria for being saved are not my feelings or ideas. It is my choices, guided by these virtues, that are the authentic way to reach heaven with God’s grace.
Today, I am also writing with a brief message regarding one of our parish and school families. We ask for prayers for our first grader, Ricardo, who was critically injured while returning home from Christmas break and recently underwent surgery. We ask for fervent prayer for Ricardo and the Santillan Valencia family during this time. Many of us know Ricardo’s father because he played Jesus in our Living Stations of the Cross several times recently. You can see a photo of the entire family attached to my letter.
Our school counselors are available to support any students who may be feeling upset or overwhelmed by this sad news. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you feel your child would benefit from this support. We recognize that this is an especially difficult time for Ricardo’s class, and we are meeting with them to pray together for their classmate’s safe and swift return to school.
We will continue to communicate with the Santillan Valencia family regarding ways our parish and Aquinas community may be able to help, such as meal trains, and we will share that information as it becomes available.
Every day is a gift, and we are called to treasure each one. Our Lady of Angels Parish and Saint Thomas Aquinas communities are strong, and together we will walk alongside the Santillan Valencia family during this time.
Last Wednesday we offered our school Mass for Ricardo’s recovery and for the Santillan Valencia family.

¡Feliz Año Nuevo 2026! Para este año, he tomado una sencilla resolución que me ayudará con mis mensajes del boletín. Además de informarles sobre los eventos relevantes de la parroquia o nuestras familias, revisaré y comentaré un texto clásico para la formación en la fe, el Catecismo de Baltimore. Espero que nuestras familias puedan memorizar juntas verdades sencillas para crecer en identidad católica. A continuación, les presento mi primera selección de preguntas y respuestas para que todos reflexionen, con un breve comentario que les ofrezo.
¿Por qué te creó Dios?
Dios me creó para conocerlo, amarlo y servirlo en este mundo, y para ser feliz con Él para siempre en el cielo.
Breve comentario: Conocer a Cristo es mi plena felicidad en el cielo, pero ya comienza aquí en la tierra.
¿Qué debemos hacer para salvar nuestras almas?
Para salvar nuestras almas, debemos adorar a Dios con fe, esperanza y caridad; es decir, debemos creer en Él, esperar en Él y amarlo con todo nuestro corazón.
Breve comentario: Los criterios definitivos para ser salvados no son mis sentimientos o ideas. Son mis elecciones, guiadas por estas virtudes, las que constituyen el camino auténtico para llegar al cielo con la gracia de Dios.
Hoy también les escribo para compartir un breve mensaje sobre una de nuestras familias de la parroquia y la escuela. Pedimos oraciones por nuestro alumno de primer grado, Ricardo, que sufrió heridas graves cuando regresaba a casa después de las vacaciones de Navidad y recientemente fue operado. Pedimos oraciones fervientes por Ricardo y la familia Santillán Valencia durante este momento. Muchos de nosotros conocemos al padre de Ricardo porque recientemente interpretó a Jesús en nuestro Vía Crucis viviente en varias ocasiones. Pueden ver una foto de toda la familia adjunta a mi carta.
Nuestros terapeutas en la escuela están disponibles para apoyar a cualquier estudiante que esté disgustado o abrumado por esta triste noticia. No dude en comunicarse con nosotros si cree que su hijo se beneficiaría de este apoyo. Reconocemos que este es un momento especialmente difícil para la clase de Ricardo, y nos reuniremos con ellos para rezar juntos por el regreso seguro y rápido de su compañero a la escuela.
Seguiremos en contacto con la familia Santillán Valencia para ver cómo nuestra parroquia y la comunidad de Aquinas pueden ayudar, por ejemplo, con comidas, y compartiremos esa información en cuanto esté disponible.
Cada día es un regalo y estamos llamados a atesorar cada uno de ellos. Las comunidades de la parroquia Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles y Saint Thomas Aquinas son fuertes y juntos acompañaremos a la familia Santillán Valencia durante este tiempo.
El miércoles pasado ofrecimos nuestra misa escolar por la recuperación de Ricardo y por la familia Santillán Valencia.
Que Dios bendiga a Ricardo y a toda nuestra parroquia y familia escolar.
