Dear Parishioners,
Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday. Yes, Lent has arrived.
Why do we need Lent? Why is it good for us? Would anyone disagree that we all need more peace in our world? Lent is a blessing for that very reason.
It’s very hard to have peace without God at the center of our lives. A life without prayer is like a door without a hinge—it doesn’t swing correctly. A week without Sunday Mass is like a car running on fumes—it will stop sooner rather than later. A family that doesn’t spend time together in the Adoration Chapel is like a boat without an anchor or rudder; they will spin in circles and struggle to find deep meaning in their journey. A budget without a line item for donations is like a balloon that is overinflated and will eventually burst. A soul without fasting is like an athlete who doesn’t work out; weakness will soon set in.
So, what is Lent? It is a time when we intentionally get to know Christ better, follow him more closely, and come together as a family of faith. We pray together, fast together, and give together. In reality, Lent is a blessed time to reclaim the freedom that is ours as God’s children.
The fruit of Lent is the joy of Easter if we engage in the Lenten journey and follow the Church’s recommendations.
The Light is on for You. During Lent, we will offer confession on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. instead of Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. For many years, all parishes in the Diocese of Arlington have agreed to offer confession at the same time as a sign of a common vision for reconciliation during Lent. On Ash Wednesday, we will not have confessions in the evening due to the large number of faithful who will be attending Mass and receiving ashes.
Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday. Enter Lent as if you were stepping into a boat with Christ, learning how to navigate life. By journeying with Christ, we come to know him better and follow him with greater love. After all, Lent leads us to Easter, the most fundamental truth of our faith: life is stronger than death, love is deeper than hate, and hope is higher than our greatest dreams.
Engage in spiritual combat during Lent! Be courageous, humble, and ask for Mary’s intercession.

El Miércoles de Ceniza es este miércoles. Sí, ha llegado la Cuaresma.
¿Por qué necesitamos la Cuaresma? ¿Por qué es buena para nosotros? ¿Hay alguien que no esté de acuerdo en que todos necesitamos más paz en nuestro mundo? La Cuaresma es una bendición precisamente por eso.
Es muy difícil tener paz sin Dios en el centro de nuestras vidas. Una vida sin oración es como una puerta sin bisagras: no se abre correctamente. Una semana sin la misa dominical es como un coche que avanza con el depósito a punto de agotarse: tarde o temprano se detendrá. Una familia que no pasa tiempo junta en la capilla de adoración es como un barco sin ancla ni timón: dará vueltas en círculos y le costará encontrar un sentido profundo a su viaje. Un presupuesto familiar sin una partida para donaciones es como un globo muy inflado y que acabará estallando. Un alma sin ayuno es como un atleta que no entrena; pronto aparecerá la debilidad.
Entonces, ¿qué es la Cuaresma? Es un tiempo en el que nos proponemos conocer mejor a Cristo, seguirlo más de cerca y reunirnos como familia de fe. Rezamos juntos, ayunamos juntos y damos juntos. En realidad, la Cuaresma es un tiempo bendito para recuperar la libertad que nos corresponde como hijos de Dios.
El fruto de la Cuaresma es la alegría de la Pascua si nos comprometemos en el camino cuaresmal y seguimos las recomendaciones de la Iglesia.
La luz está encendida para ti. Durante la Cuaresma, ofreceremos confesiones los miércoles de 6:30 a 8:00 p. m. en lugar de los jueves de 6:00 a 7:00 p. m. Durante muchos años, todas las parroquias de la Diócesis de Arlington han acordado ofrecer confesiones al mismo tiempo como señal de una visión común de reconciliación durante la Cuaresma. El Miércoles de Ceniza no habrá confesiones por la tarde debido al gran número de fieles que asistirán a misa y recibirán las cenizas.
El Miércoles de Ceniza es este miércoles. Entra en la Cuaresma como si estuvieras subiendo a un barco con Cristo, aprendiendo a navegar por la vida. Al caminar con Cristo, llegamos a conocerlo mejor y a seguirlo con mayor amor. Después de todo, la Cuaresma nos lleva a la Pascua, la verdad más fundamental de nuestra fe: la vida es más fuerte que la muerte, el amor es más profundo que el odio y la esperanza es más alta que nuestros mayores sueños.
¡Entra en el combate espiritual esta Cuaresma! Sé valiente, sé humilde y pide la intercesión de María.
