Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
Dear Parishioners,
Merry Christmas to all of you! May the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.
On this Sunday after Christmas Day, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. Today, we pray for the sanctification of our family life as we contemplate the Holy Family in the silence of Nazareth. According to Saint Paul VI, who went to the Holy Land as a pilgrim, there are three main lessons we can learn: the value of silence, domestic life and prayer. Here are his words:
- The lesson of silence: may there return to us an appreciation of this stupendous and indispensable spiritual condition, deafened as we are by so much tumult, so much noise, so many voices of our chaotic and frenzied modern life. O silence of Nazareth, teach us recollection, reflection, and eagerness to heed the good inspirations and words of true teachers; teach us the need and value of preparation, of study, of meditation, of interior life, of secret prayer seen by God alone.
- The lesson of work: O Nazareth, home of “the carpenter’s son,” We want here to understand and to praise the austere and redeeming law of human labor, here to restore the consciousness of the dignity of labor, here to recall that work cannot be an end in itself, and that it is free and ennobling in proportion to the values – beyond the economic ones – which motivate it. We would like here to salute all the workers of the world, and to point out to them their great Model, their Divine Brother, the Champion of all their rights, Christ the Lord!
- The lesson of domestic life: may Nazareth teach us the meaning of family life, its harmony of love, its simplicity and austere beauty, its sacred and inviolable character; may it teach is how sweet and irreplaceable is its training, how fundamental and incomparable its role on the social plane.
We are pleased to announce that the restoration of the statue of Our Blessed Mother at the entrance to the Adoration Chapel is complete. We are grateful to Lorton Stone, LLC, for donating their time and materials. I am confident that they have done a terrific job. This company was founded by our late parishioner, Manuel Seara Espina. Lorton Stone LLC has worked on many projects, including the Pentagon Memorial, the US Marine Corps Memorial, the US Capitol Building, and the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, to name a few. It’s certainly a gift to enter the Christmas season with this much-needed renovation completed. Thank you, Lorton Stone!
As you prepare for the new year, I encourage you to make a list of all the blessings you received from God in 2025. It is through thanksgiving that we open our hearts to new blessings. Happy New Year, 2026!

¡Feliz Navidad a todos! Que la paz de Cristo reine en sus corazones.
En este domingo después del día de Navidad, celebramos la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia. Hoy rezamos por la santificación de nuestra vida familiar mientras contemplamos a la Sagrada Familia en el silencio de Nazaret. Según San Pablo VI, que fue peregrino a Tierra Santa, hay tres lecciones principales que podemos aprender: el valor del silencio, la vida doméstica y la oración. Estas son sus palabras:
- La lección del silencio: que vuelva a nosotros el aprecio por esta condición espiritual tan estupenda e indispensable, ensordecidos como estamos por tanto tumulto, tanto ruido, tantas voces de nuestra caótica y frenética vida moderna. Oh silencio de Nazaret, enséñanos el recogimiento, la reflexión y el deseo de escuchar las buenas inspiraciones y palabras de los verdaderos maestros; enséñanos la necesidad y el valor de la preparación, del estudio, de la meditación, de la vida interior, de la oración secreta que solo Dios ve.
- La lección de la vida doméstica: que Nazaret nos enseñe el significado de la vida familiar, su armonía de amor, su sencillez y austera belleza, su carácter sagrado e inviolable; que nos enseñe cuán dulce e irremplazable es su formación, cuán fundamental e incomparable es su papel en el plano social.
- La lección del trabajo: Oh Nazaret, hogar del «hijo del carpintero», queremos aquí comprender y alabar la ley austera y redentora del trabajo humano, aquí restaurar la conciencia de la dignidad del trabajo, aquí recordar que el trabajo no puede ser un fin en sí mismo, y que es libre y ennoblecedor en proporción a los valores —más allá de los económicos— que lo motivan. Queremos aquí saludar a todos los trabajadores del mundo y señalarles su gran Modelo, su Divino Hermano, el Defensor de todos sus derechos, ¡Cristo el Señor!
Nos complace anunciar que la restauración de la estatua de Nuestra Señora en la entrada de la Capilla de Adoración ha finalizado. Agradecemos a Lorton Stone, LLC, por donar su tiempo y materiales. Estoy convencido de que han hecho un trabajo magnífico. Esta empresa fue fundada por nuestro difunto feligrés Manuel Seara Espina. Lorton Stone LLC ha trabajado en muchos proyectos, entre los que se incluyen el Monumento Conmemorativo del Pentágono, el Monumento Conmemorativo del Cuerpo de Marines de los Estados Unidos, el Edificio del Capitolio de los Estados Unidos y los Monumentos Conmemorativos de Jefferson y Lincoln, por nombrar algunos. Sin duda, es un regalo comenzar la temporada navideña con esta renovación tan necesaria ya completada. ¡Gracias, Lorton Stone!
Mientras se preparan para el nuevo año, les animo a que hagan una lista de todas las bendiciones que recibieron de Dios en 2025. Es a través de la acción de gracias que abrimos nuestros corazones a nuevas bendiciones. ¡Feliz Año Nuevo 2026!
