Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion
Dear parishioners,
First, I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone visiting our parish today with family or friends. I am well aware of the difficulties we all face in keeping our faith alive. If you are visiting for the first time in a while, know that you are in my prayers, and that you are invited to become an active member of our parish. We are here to support you and your family on your faith journey and help you reconnect with or deepen your practice of our faith.
Today we enter Holy Week through Palm Sunday. Christ entered Jerusalem hailed as a King and proclaimed as the long-expected Messiah. The pilgrims who came to Jerusalem with Jesus spread their garments on the street along with Jesus passes. This has a precise meaning: it is a gesture of enthronement in the tradition of the Davidic kingship (as explained by Pope Benedict XVI). We know what happened a few days later: Jesus was crucified as the King of the Jews. The crucifixion summarizes his mission: to rescue us from the power of Satan and death by surrendering himself in all humility. Christ has chosen to be always at our feet as the humble servant of God.
The gesture of spreading garments finds a more radical expression in the gesture of Christ during the Last Supper: the washing of the feet. Among the different explanations given buy theologians, two stand out. The washing of the feet was a symbolic action pointing to Jesus´ death and it is also paradigmatic of the service he came to fulfil, to give us an example of true service. But, Pope Benedict XVI explains a deeper meaning to just an exterior example: Jesus´action becomes ours, because he is acting in us. “He who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater than these because I go to the Father” John 14:12.
I am also glad to report that we have finished installing a new roof on our parish hall/school gym. Thanks to all who donated and to EZ Prado Construction for their generous donation of time and labor. We are improving our facilities one step at a time, and the damage from the recent ice and snow storm became a total priority. Seeing such a strong response and growing sense of ownership from many of our school and parish families is inspiring. The proceeds from our Aquinas second collection, which totaled over $8,000, were used entirely to fund part of the new roof.
Finally, I would like to encourage you to attend the Solemn Triduum liturgies: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. These are the most important feasts of our faith, and we want to celebrate them together. On Saturday, we will welcome our newest brothers and sisters, who will be fully initiated through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist. Please pray for them, and do your best to attend the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 4, at 8:00 p.m., followed by a simple reception.

Domingo de Ramos “De la pasión del Señor”
Queridos feligreses:
En primer lugar, me gustaría dar una cálida bienvenida a todos los que visitan hoy nuestra parroquia con sus familiares o amigos. Soy muy consciente de las dificultades a las que todos nos enfrentamos para mantener viva nuestra fe. Si es la primera vez que nos visita en mucho tiempo, sepa que está presente en mis oraciones y que le invitamos a convertirse en miembro activo de nuestra parroquia. Estamos aquí para apoyarles a usted y a su familia en su camino de fe y para ayudarles a retomar o profundizar en la práctica de nuestra fe.
Hoy entramos en la Semana Santa con el Domingo de Ramos. Cristo entró en Jerusalén aclamado como Rey y proclamado como el Mesías tan esperado. Los peregrinos que llegaron a Jerusalén con Jesús extendieron sus mantos en la calle por donde pasaba Jesús. Esto tiene un significado preciso: es un gesto de entronización en la tradición de la realeza davídica (tal y como lo explicó el papa Benedicto XVI). Sabemos lo que ocurrió unos días después: Jesús fue crucificado como Rey de los judíos. La crucifixión resume su misión: rescatarnos del poder de Satanás y de la muerte entregándose a sí mismo con toda humildad. Cristo ha elegido estar siempre a nuestros pies como humilde siervo de Dios.
El gesto de extender las vestiduras encuentra una expresión más radical en el gesto de Cristo durante la Última Cena: el lavatorio de los pies. Entre las diferentes explicaciones ofrecidas por los teólogos, destacan dos. El lavatorio de los pies fue un acto simbólico que apuntaba a la muerte de Jesús y es también paradigmático del servicio que vino a cumplir, para darnos un ejemplo de verdadero servicio. Pero el papa Benedicto XVI explica un significado más profundo que el de un simple ejemplo exterior: la acción de Jesús se convierte en nuestra, porque Él actúa en nosotros. «El que cree en mí, también hará las obras que yo hago; y más grandes que estas, porque yo voy al Padre» (Juan 14, 12).
También me complace informar de que hemos terminado de instalar un nuevo techo en nuestro salón parroquial/gimnasio de la escuela. Gracias a todos los que han hecho donativos y a EZ Prado Construction por su generosa donación de tiempo y mano de obra. Estamos mejorando nuestras instalaciones paso a paso, y los daños causados por la reciente tormenta de hielo y nieve se convirtieron en una prioridad absoluta. Es inspirador ver una respuesta tan sólida y un creciente sentido de pertenencia por parte de muchas de nuestras familias de la escuela y la parroquia. Los ingresos de nuestra segunda colecta de Aquinas, que ascendieron a más de 8.000 dólares, se destinaron íntegramente a financiar parte del nuevo techo.
Por último, me gustaría animaros a que asistáis a las liturgias solemnes del Triduo Pascual: el Jueves Santo, el Viernes Santo y la Vigilia Pascual. Estas son las fiestas más importantes de nuestra fe, y queremos celebrarlas juntos. El sábado daremos la bienvenida a nuestros nuevos hermanos y hermanas, que serán plenamente iniciados a través de los sacramentos del Bautismo, la Confirmación y la Sagrada Eucaristía. Por favor, recen por ellos y hagan todo lo posible por asistir a la Vigilia Pascual el sábado 4 de abril a las 20:00 h, seguida de una sencilla recepción.
